On 26^th October a Stakeholders Forum was conducted under the Community Based Rehabilitation project Creating Awareness on United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (UN-CRPD) and Disability Act (8/2010). The projected was funded by UNDP. The main object of the stakeholder’s forum was to create awareness on UNCRPD and Disability Act among the different governmental and non-governmental organizations and to create a platform to discuss different and issues and way forward by relevant stakeholders who are involved with the persons with disabilities at different levels. The forum took place in the SHE building (conference hall) from 8:45 to 12:30 pm. It started with the opening remarks of the Deputy Minister of Health and Family Ms Fathimath Afiya. Presentation on UNCRPD and Disability Act was given by Care society and Disability Council respectively. Disability counsel also explained their work and limitations in the presentation. Work related presentations on disability were also given by Human Rights Commission of Maldives, Department of Gender and Family Protection Unit, National Social Protection Agency and Education Development Centre. A good commitment was seen from all the relevant stakeholders who participated in the forum which included Disability Persons Organizations, Independent Commissions, service providing Clinics, Schools, Maldives Police Services, International Organizations and relevant Ministries. The forum turned out to be very constructive. And a lot of stakeholders have suggested having these kinds of forums more often in a much broader level.
