1998 – 1999

-Officially registered Care Society as an NGO

-started the planning of the work

-started to get funds to run care society

– Marked disable day for the 1st time in the Maldives

2000

-Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR), was introduced. This program was introduced to reach the island communities.

-need assessment was done.

-Community consultation workshop done in Mahibadhoo

2001

-Officially opened Care Development centre

-Parent Education Program started

-Ad.Cert in Special Education Course started

2002

-The first workshop on community based rehabilitation was held-core group formed

-Care Graphics studio was established to raise funds for care society’s activities

-started a CBR pilot project in S.Hithadhoo and G.Dh.Thinadhoo

2003

-Maldives Badminton Association in collaboration with Care society started badminton sessions for children with disabilities.

-started a vocational

-started a CBR pilot project in S.Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.

2004

-CS mandate expended after the disaster of tsunami in 2004.

-Capacity building of civil society

-Protecting rights of women and children

-Assisting victims of Natural Disasters in the Maldives (DRR)

-Education Rehabilitation Centers established in S.Hithadhoo and G.Dh.Thinadhoo (CBR)

-Certificate-2 in Disability Management course

2005

-Under DRR project of safe play area 5 pre-schools have been built in Atolls, Raa, Baa, Laamu and Gaafu Alifu.

-Safe play areas have been built in Laamu (Gan, Fonadhoo, Maabaidhoo, Dhanbidhoo) and Raa (Alifushi) and Gaafu Alif (Villingili)

-An evaluation program of CBR was conducted.

-Certficate-2 in Disability Management course

2006

-242 individuals have been trained from different islands under Psycho-social training for TOT , women’s right, counseling and Psychology, Community Integration and Development, Conflict Resolution and gender based violence (DRR)

2007

-School camp

-CS initiated a network on Violence against Women.

-Total of 680 people of 14 islands were given alternate livelihood support, out of this 230 families were supported in agriculture.

-Certificate-2 in Disability Management course

2008 – 2009

-Early intervention program (CDC)

-Intensive education programs (CDC)

-kids camp (CDC)

– (Mothers Club), A group formed among the mothers.

– (Rainbow Art kids), a club formed for the siblings of CDC students and kids of CS staff.

-Started a school safety program under DRR.

-Started a project on (CBDM)-community based disaster management.

-Certificate-2 in Disability Management course

Parent

Support group Care Mothers

A group formed among the parents of the students getting direct services from CDC.

Though the main objective of this group will be to build a network with other parents; this group will be conducting ongoing, interactive, informative and encouraging sessions that will help the parents to deal more effectively with the challenge of raising children.

Care Society and handicap International has signed an MOU to support  Community Based Rehabilitation Activities for 2009. On 23rd April 2009 CBR project was carried out in Addu atoll Hithadhoo and Gaafu Dhaal Thinadhoo. HI and CS are in Collaboration from 2006 until the end of 2009.
